Who Am I on The Dance Floor?

My dance teacher told me today, that I can be anyone I want to be on the dance floor. This was a novel idea for me. In a world that says “Be yourself”, “don’t try to be someone else”, “you do you!”, that may seem counterintuitive, and maybe, in some ways it is. After all, you want to express yourself, bring your authenticity to your moves. But the other side of it is that you really can be ‘someone else’ on the dance floor! If you’re a serious, staid, covered- up doctor in your real life, on the dance floor you can be dramatic, mysterious, sensuous, flirty, angry, passionate, light-hearted, removed. You can express any emotion and be the nature of the dance; romantic Waltz, sultry Rumba, dark Paso, care-free Jive. On the dance floor is where you get to express all the facets of your nature. In fact, the performance is better with your own expression and interpretation of the dance; you’re still you, but even more you than usual.
